## Visiting Nathula Pass (14,140 ft)
Nathula Pass connects Sikkim with China Tibet Autonomous Region. Because it is an active international border post under the administration of the Indian Army, civilian access is strictly regulated.
### 1. Who Can Visit Nathula Pass?
Under Indian Ministry of Home Affairs regulations, **Nathula Pass is open strictly to Indian citizens**. Foreign passport holders, OCIs, and PIOs are not permitted by the military authorities to proceed to the border post.
### 2. Required Documentation
To apply for a Protected Area Permit (PAP) for Nathula Pass:
- **Government Photo ID:** Valid Voter ID Card or Indian Passport (Note: In many border checkpoints, Aadhaar is not accepted as the sole document for Nathula).
- **Two Passport-Sized Photographs** per traveler.
- Applications must be submitted through a registered Sikkim tour operator at least **24 to 48 hours in advance**.
### 3. Operational Days & Closures
Nathula Pass is closed to civilian visitors on **Mondays and Tuesdays** for military maintenance and convoy logistics.
